Beachy keen

In about 48 hours I’ll be leaving Myrtle Beach for Virginia Beach for
THE PUNGO STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL!

For three days I’ll be spending time with my favorite vegan cousin Cyn and her two adorable kiddos. And probably enjoying more than enough: strawberry cake, strawberry pie, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry drank, salad with strawberries, strawberry smoothies, and corn on the cob. Mmmhmm, the strawberry festival has the most delicious grilled corn on the cob a girl could ever dream for.

As a fam we’ll all probably wind up going to Busch Gardens to ride some coasters. Gulls best be stayin out of my way!  BTW- totally not me or else I would have died.

What else have I been up to these days? First of all, I’m amazed May is almost over. Thank goodness I finally found a job! I’ll be working days (8 AM- ???) at a movie theater in town working the prep and free kid movie shift. Monday-Thursday mornings campers, locals, and tourists flock to see films like Alvin and the Chippers, Cloudy with a Chance of Soy Meaty Balls, Where the Strange Things Are…etc. While scheduling the interview last week I assumed this would be a 4pm- 12am or later job. I’ve been working those hours for the past few years now. I think starting the day early and having nights open will be a well accepted change for me.

I’ve also been beaching

On the occasional run

and eating!

Sorry about the less than spectacular cell pictures. When I’m around others I casually take a phone picture. I kinda feel strange snapping away around other people. Ya win some, ya lose some, right? 😉

Whole wheat toast with almond butter and the golden fruit

Snacky apple and Annie’s brand choco bunnies

Spinach, Goddess dressing, tomatoes, celery, trampoline

Banana, apple, almonds, step dad’s tractor collection…no lie

Mellow Mushroom salad. Spring mix, avocado, bbq tofu, banana peppers, honey mustard dressing. I’ve died and gone to heaven folks. Mellow Mushroom is the place to be. I love the build your own salad option, obviously! My friend’s pizza looked good too.

Now for the Alba giveaway results!
Congrats go to Genesis!! Please e-mail me (information on right side of page) so I can send you the goods! 😀
Thanks to everyone for entering and leaving comments.

I have two questions today
Can anyone teach me how to turn a link into text? I’d like to link blogs with a single word rather than writing out the entire web address.

Do you have any festivals in your area? What kind of outdoor activities does your city provide?

xoxo, Annie

1st giveaway & a love affair

Today was the day to pack up the once loved, old, and even unused things in the family garage for a community yard sale tomorrow morning. First step was to clean the area to even see what we had to sell! Please promise you won’t call Hoarders and demand an intervention.

Mamasita had been at it since early this morning, poor thing. I finally pitched in around 1 pm and we didn’t finish up until 9 tonight. Oy! You’ll never guess what I found in the process.

Some funky monkeys and a dusty Batman

James Earl Jones: the Bible edition

Jenny’s (soy) hot diggity dog costume

My head-gear circa ’99 (oh the things my mom saves!)

I consider myself lucky I never had to wear that out in public. I wore my head-gear at night for several months when I was about ten. At one point I recall the neck cushion was hot pink. 🙂

After a hot shower I was ready for some snackage. Tonight I had my first Green Monster and loved it! I’m talking: ‘never turning back, drinking every single day, where have you been all my life buddy’ kinda loved it. Enjoy a blurry picture:

I blended:
1 banana
2 cups spinach
1 tbsp flax seed
1 cup plain almond milk
1 spoonful of almond butter
Crushed ice

I would have never known the spinach was in the smoothie if I hadn’t mixed it myself.
It was cool, delicious, and foamy. What took me so long to work up the courage to try one?!

Before I forget, I found one goodie in the garage you might want. So, what will it be? The monkey babies or head-gear? 😉 My mom is notorious for buying in bulk and purchasing gifts. Some time ago she stumbled across several of these bad boys and still has a few on hand!

It’s an Alba five piece Tropical Body Care. Alba is a California-based company that is

Not tested on animals
Paraben free
Hypo-allergenic

I’ve personally tried out a lip balm and body cream of my own and love them. Each scent was wonderful and the products are hydrate without feeling gooey or too heavy.

I will randomly pick a winner on Thursday the 27th.

Yep, simple as that!

Who will it be???

Do you have any embarrassing childhood memories?
In third grade I fell down a hill chasing a kick ball. I landed at the bottom covered in mud…right in front of my crush. Oh, the horror!

body peace, where are you?

Hi beautiful bloggies. You each brighten up my day with the comments I get! Thank you for sharing your opinions!

Yesterday was such an interesting ride.  After jumping on the scale on Tuesday (strike one) and sneaking a peek at my new number (about 3 pounds up from March) I’ve been extremely aware of one thing…my body. I long to be comfortable in my own skin. I’m still learning to accept what I’ve been given.

Yesterday morning my mom took me to a nearby studio to get a massage.  I felt relaxed and had a wonderful experience (how could I not?!?) but was hyper aware of every inch of my body. There is something vulnerable about chilling in a waiting room in just a robe and sandals. 😉

I brought a book to read and drank a few cups of Mighty Leaf’s Green Tropical tea

and maybe even sampled two of these babies

After my massage I enjoyed a very fresh lunch

Last night I went out with friends for dinner and a baseball game. We stopped by a local steak house for a quick bite to eat. Imagine a picture of a big plate of tortilla chips and cheesy spinach dip.

Oooh, aaaah, yum!

I ate about 1/3 of the plate of chips and finished all of the side dip. My friends also got snacky meals (mostly chicken wings) before we went to the stadium.

Each time our waiter came by to check on the table he directed less than flattering comments towards me.

“Wow, you really went to town on those!”

“You licked that plate clean, didn’t you?” (Yes, I used all of the dip. Sue me. But 2/3 of the chips were leftover!)

One of my girl friends told the waiter she was done while a few chicken tenders were still on her plate.
He responded with, “You don’t want the rest of those? Oh, it’s ok! She (meaning me) has eaten enough for the whole table!”

I smiled and held my tongue like a “good girl”. But his comments really hurt me. I doubt he understands the discomfort I felt being put on the spot like that. Remarks about how much or how little I’ve consumed embarrass me and make me feel self-conscious. Needless to say, I was ready to book it.

By seven p.m. we headed over the Pelican’s stadium for the game. I had such a nice time kicking back with people who love me! Note the Flyers tent sweatshirt I was appropriately repping for the evening 😉 It got cold after a few hours!

Yesterday was a great reminder of how sensitive I am to outsider opinions. In reality, all that should matter is my OWN. 😀

How do you handle less than flattering remarks?
Do you ever have unhappy body days? How do you cope?

Annie

After a few connecting flights

and a quick Operation Beautiful note slipped into my tray table

I made it home to Myrtle Beach! The past few days have spent sleeping (no shame), job hunting, time with friends and family, and…
RUNNING!

Today was pretty overcast and a little muggy but still beautiful in my eyes

I don’t have a device to track my statistics. If I did, I would probably obsess over them.  Maybe if I stick this out and give running a try for a good month I’ll spring for a GPS and get serious! In the mean time, I’m keeping a pretty slow pace and running anywhere from 25 to 40 minutes each day. Whew! Girl can go! I remember the days feeling winded and defeated after two minutes of jogging. So, if I can do this, so can you!

I downed a few cups of water and took an icy cool shower. But I knew it was time for some lunch. Enter: the snack wrap

Flat Out wrap with a Boca Burger, tomato, lettuce, spicy brown mustard and ketchup
On the side: 1/2 apple with almond butter and grapes

I drove around town filling out and dropping off applications. Don’t deny this face. I’ll just keep making it. 😉

The whole family is home tonight and I think a DDR competition and Banana Baby are calling my name!

How do you like to spend time with your family?xoxo, Annie

Currently I’m writing to you all from a comfy chair in an airport business lounge. My location?  Denver, Colorado! I’m munching on an apple and a veggie sandwich at the moment. 😀

I spent almost the last week with The Boyfriend and some buddies in upstate New Mexico to start my summer break. My next stop (thanks to help from my dad) is Myrtle Beach to visit my mom and brothers just in time for Mother’s Day!

Now before I get into the post I have a little confession. I haven’t taken any worthwhile meal pictures. An egg sandwich here and a bowl of salad there…less than impressive.

But I think I’ve discovered a way to make it up to you. Puppies are always the cure.

My activity and intake levels have been higher than they usually are. My observation is I feel 10x better! I’ve been running, long boarding,  walking, roller blading, and hiking in the past couple of days. All of these activities remind me of elementary school Annie in the summer only coming inside for a popsicle break.

I went along with the guys on a fishing trip. Homegirl doesn’t really eat fish so I took about an hour walk and went exploring. Upstate is so diverse and gorgeous!

A few of the boys back with the catch of the day:

The weather was my idea of perfection the entire time I was in Farmington, NM. Most days it was between 70-80 degrees all afternoon! I snapped a picture while on a walking trail on Tuesday. Check out that sun burn. Ouch!

This week was the first time I gave long boarding a chance. I tend to stumble and fumble on skate boards and wasn’t expecting anything different on a long board. After a few nights of practice, a little temper tantrum, and a fall or two, I felt I finally got the hang of it! Don’t judge me for wearing my flippy floppys. 😉  I snuck a picture of The BF too. He’s such  a natural. These pictures were off my phone and aren’t the most glam quality.

I now leave you with the promised puppy filler. The larger one is Laylah and has been featured on the blog a few entries back. The two new ones are Delilah (blonde) and Zoe (brown) aka Little Puppy aka LP. The belong to friends of mine and it took every ounce of energy not to take them home with me!

Cute factor overload. Do you have pets? Why or why not? I’m doing my best to wait until after college to look for a companion. I think it would be a little more responsible that way.

More next time. I promise. Later Gators!
xoxo, Annie
