1st giveaway & a love affair

May 22, 2010 § 36 Comments

Today was the day to pack up the once loved, old, and even unused things in the family garage for a community yard sale tomorrow morning. First step was to clean the area to even see what we had to sell! Please promise you won’t call Hoarders and demand an intervention.

Mamasita had been at it since early this morning, poor thing. I finally pitched in around 1 pm and we didn’t finish up until 9 tonight. Oy! You’ll never guess what I found in the process.

Some funky monkeys and a dusty Batman

James Earl Jones: the Bible edition

Jenny’s (soy) hot diggity dog costume

My head-gear circa ’99 (oh the things my mom saves!)

I consider myself lucky I never had to wear that out in public. I wore my head-gear at night for several months when I was about ten. At one point I recall the neck cushion was hot pink. 🙂

After a hot shower I was ready for some snackage. Tonight I had my first Green Monster and loved it! I’m talking: ‘never turning back, drinking every single day, where have you been all my life buddy’ kinda loved it. Enjoy a blurry picture:

I blended:
1 banana
2 cups spinach
1 tbsp flax seed
1 cup plain almond milk
1 spoonful of almond butter
Crushed ice

I would have never known the spinach was in the smoothie if I hadn’t mixed it myself.
It was cool, delicious, and foamy. What took me so long to work up the courage to try one?!

Before I forget, I found one goodie in the garage you might want. So, what will it be? The monkey babies or head-gear? 😉 My mom is notorious for buying in bulk and purchasing gifts. Some time ago she stumbled across several of these bad boys and still has a few on hand!

It’s an Alba five piece Tropical Body Care. Alba is a California-based company that is

Not tested on animals
Paraben free
Hypo-allergenic

I’ve personally tried out a lip balm and body cream of my own and love them. Each scent was wonderful and the products are hydrate without feeling gooey or too heavy.

I will randomly pick a winner on Thursday the 27th.

Yep, simple as that!

Who will it be???

Do you have any embarrassing childhood memories?
In third grade I fell down a hill chasing a kick ball. I landed at the bottom covered in mud…right in front of my crush. Oh, the horror!

Aww, look at the doggy costume! Adorable.

I have more embarrassing childhood memories than I’d care to think about! lol

I’ve heard good things about Alba! I hope I win! 😉

  • Jessica says:

i’ve tried an alba face wash and loved the coconuty tropical smell!

  • traynharder23 says:

LOL my sister had to wear taht head gear. i have no idea why i thought that was so cool.

hmmm. i’ve tried to shave my eyebrows off, eaten a cookie from the sandbox, told people to f-off….yeah, i was a lady.

    =D

ahhaha love your blog, now imma read teh archives!

  • Astrid says:

I have only sampled Alba products, but I would love to try out the set (if I win, that is). I have so many embarassing childhood memories. One that sticks out is in first grade. I was wearing those pants with the elastic bands. A boy came up behind me and pulled them down. Everyone saw my Little Mermaid underwear. Not cool!

  • eatgoodstuff says:

I’m so glad you’re back! I was missing your posts 🙂
I remember when I was in 2nd grade, I was on a tire swing, swinging over a giant mud puddle (someone had told me I wouldn’t do it… so being the competitive person I am, I had to do it!)… obviously I fell face first in to the mud puddle. And I had to walk around covered in mud the rest of the day.
I feel like today I might be able to laugh that off… but as a 6 year old, it was the end of the world!
    🙂

    shes baaaaaaack!

we only have a small storage closet and most times im scared to go in there, not sure what ive piled in there over the years. but it looks like youve found some great treasures there 🙂

  • peacebeme says:

I love the dog costume (I love anything dogs! 🙂 )

  • Maria says:

oh yay! I’m glad you commented on my blog so I could find yours in time for the giveaway! 🙂

I actually wrote my embarrassing childhood memory on another blog (skinnyrunner) last week but it involves me wetting my pants in a red plaid kilt while singing My Country Tis of Thee & standing (all alone) in front of my entire 1st grade class.

  • I love Alba shampoo and conditioner, great products!
Falling off a horse in front of a bunch of people was pretty embarrassing.

  • Oh. My. God.
I had a cute attack at the picture of your dog. Where can I get one ASAP to humiliate my pup?!
Annnd…pretty much my entire childhood is sort of embarrassing. For some reason, my mom and I thought it would be a good idea to cut my hair very similar to a boy. I think I was mistaken for a boy a couple times, too.

    • I found it a few years ago on Ebay! You’ll be surprised at what you can find. Now might be a good time to (in all seriousness) if you’re looking for a pet outfit. Prices go up closer to Halloween.

We really don’t dress her up. She just has the one hot dog costume for fun and a few neck bandanas. 🙂

  • Julie says:

Your garage is *not* that bad. My neighbors across the street open theirs while working on cars and it is completely packed, floor to ceiling with a teeny-tiny walkway through it. I’m always afraid someone is going to die in there during some sort of freak accident. : )

  • Janelle says:

I embarrassed myself daily as a child. The first one that comes to mind is when a friend of my dad’s caught me peeing behind a car – I had to go *so* bad and couldn’t make it back inside, and figured being caught was better than peeing my pants. Yeah…not so sure about that one now, I still get teased!

  • I’m still embarrassing myself! haha… sometimes I’m embarrassed by WHO I used to be, but then I thank God for who He made me, and for allowing me to become wiser and more mature as I grow older.

You will become addicted to those green smoothies! Your body knows when something’s good. I love them!

    Blessings!
    Alisha

  • Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
I love your blog concept, I only wish I would have had my blog throughout college (hmmm…or maybe not, I guess I wasn’t so healthy!).

Most embarrassing childhood memory would have to be when a boy was holding my feet down to do sit ups, and I farted. MORTIFYING!

  • Maybe the winner will be ME! I heart Alba.

  • Oh I have so many embarrassing childhood things, I also had a pretty short haircut for awhile (my choice) which I will say is number 1. 🙂

  • Your garage isn’t that bad. You should see my storage room in my basement. 😉

I have way too many embarrassing childhood memories. One involving me punching my friend’s older brother in the groin!

Glad you’ve hopped on the Green Monster bandwagon! 😀

  • Christine says:

Here’s my funny kid story. When I was in 3rd grade I got into a bicycle accident: I flipped over the handlebars and landed directly on my face!!! My face was all bloody and scabby and really gross looking. I was really anxious about going to school on Monday. All the kids would laugh at me! Plus, yearly school photos were that week! What a disaster. I was distraught over going back to school, so my mom said, “When someone asks you what happened, make something up that’s REALLY wild. Like…tell them that a pink elephant fell out of the sky and landed on your or something!”

Got it. So I get to school and sure enough, one of the teachers asks me, “Oh dear Christine! What happened to you?” and I told her the most outrageous story I could think of. “My mom and dad beat me,” told her.

Of course, that led to a visit the principal’s office, and then the principal made a housecall to my parent’s house….and social services got involved…blahblahblah. Funny how kids’ brains work I guess!!!

  • Annie says:

man, i love alba! and your blog – AND we have the same name 😉
i always see green monsters on the other blogs but have yet to try them. maybe i will soon!

  • That dog costume is hilarious! I love it. And alba products are great 🙂
A weird/embarrassing kiddie story is when I was in first grade I got some permanent markers and my friends and I wrote “boys have cooties” on the bus seats. Oops. We got “detention” for it and I felt soo guilty!

  • James Earl Jones the Bible edition hahahahah I love it.

I will definitely not report you to Hoarders. you aren’t even close to being like some of those people.

For my embarrassing moment: in college I once had an “incident” while watching a flag football game, when I happened to be wearing a skirt. Basically I ended up on the ground on top of one of the players with my legs up in the air and a circle of people surrounding me saying, “Are you okay?” Super embarrassing

  • thank you!! ❤

I look forward to reading more of your blog, lovely lady

  • runrettarun says:

  • Yay! I’m so happy you found my blog!

This giveaway is awesome and it looks like you had fun cleaning out your garage!! I almost had to have headgear when i was younger, but luckily I didn’t (I had the hugest fit when I thought I would have to wear it!!)

Can’t wait to read more, girlie! 🙂

  • Kelly says:

What a great give-a-way! I have heard such great things about Alba body products! Thanks for commenting on my blog so I can follow you now too! 🙂

  • homegirlcaneat says:

HARROOOO friends! Thanks for your lovely comment!! Aren’t green monsters ACTUALLY life changing?! I need to find a blender because I am CRAVING one! And foreal, AWESOME giveaway!!!!

  • kbwood says:

girl i LOVE alba products 🙂 they rock!

  • janetha says:

ahahaha I LOVE YOUR HOT DOGGIE!

  • Lindsay says:

I love it that your mom saved your head gear!! I almost bought Molly a hotdog costume last year, but ended up going with a turtle!!

  • Green monsters are surprisingly tasty! I always feel good drinking such a healthified smoothie.

I had a very embarrassing childhood all around because I’m quite accident-prone. One of the standout memories would have to be when I threw up on the way to the zoo during summer camp. I’m pretty sure it got all over a camp counselor’s purse… if I were her I would’ve been pissed!

  • I’ve never tried Alba but these look great!! 🙂 I’m always on the hunt for new body products.

  • I actually laughed out loud on your comment about your first green monster! I just had my first one this week, and, can we say “life changing?”

Anyway, great blog. I actually moved across the country in the middle of high school, too. For some time, it was a really tough transition, but then I discovered a group of the best friends I could imagine.

Good luck with the idea of running your first 5K. The great thing is that there are so many races and so many different types of “runners” that you can take it at whatever pace you want… just have fun!
